Mt Hood Institute promotes sustainable recreation in Mt. Hood National Forest through education, action, and advocacy.

Goals

To actively work towards conservation of Mount Hood’s high traffic areas recreational sites, protect their natural features, and mitigate downstream effects. To promote safe travel through Mount Hood’s alpine wilderness environment by raising awareness and building skills. We will foster a sense of stewardship of Mt. Hood’s alpine wilderness environments, and it’s recreational sites, and be a vehicle for environmental activism for outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate the sanctity of a clean and connected alpine ecosystem.

History

This grassroots nonprofit was started by a vision of three like-minded individuals seeking to follow in the footsteps of John Muir; who spoke of “the beginning of the work of the infinite” in Oregon and helped start the conservation movement. We’re seeking to continue is mission and hope you’ll join us on the journey to be written across time. If you have ideas, something you want to see happen on Mt Hood, we’re here to help you accomplish it.
